FSRCH/Windows - FILE SEARCH UTILITY
version 1.0
Copyright (c) 1992, Stan Leeson
All Rights Reserved
NOTE: Shareware distributors see the "Note to distributors" at
the end of this file.
This is a SHAREWARE version of FSRCH/Windows 1.0. It is set up
to be installed from a .ZIP file from a bulletin board or from a
single high-density 5-1/4" diskette or double-density 3-1/2"
diskette from a shareware distributor. SHAREWARE versions that
install from two double-density 5-1/4" diskettes are available
by writing to Leeson Software Services at the address below and
providing $2.00 to PARTIALLY defray shipping expenses.
In return for the $12 registration fee you will receive the latest
version with shareware notices removed. You will also receive a
printed user's manual for this product.
This is a SHAREWARE product. It may be freely distributed for trial
use as long as it is not changed in any way. Shareware developers
do not receive any compensation from shareware distribution companies.
The only compensation that developers receive is from a portion of
the registration fee that users provide when they find the product
useful. It is important that you register the product if you are
going to use it. The registration process provides you with a license
to use the product on a single machine. Site licenses are always
available for companies that need to use multiple copies of the
program.
The only documentation provided with the shareware version is this
file and the extensive on-line windows help. After completing
installation, we urge you to browse through the help file. This
software provides many features that may not be obvious to the
casual user, but they are all documented in the help file.
INSTALLATION:
Installation can be done from a .ZIP file loaded from a bulletin
board or from a single diskette from a shareware distributor.
ZIP FILE INSTALLATION:
To install from a ZIP file, simply create the directory that is
to hold this product and "unzip" the files into it. Then install
it as a new program item with windows program manager.
EXAMPLE installing on drive C:
C: -- Change to the target drive.
pkunzip FSRCHWIN.ZIP -- Unzip the files.
DISKETTE INSTALLATION
To install from a diskette, run the install batch file on the
distribution disk either from program manager or from the
DOS prompt.
EXAMPLE installing on drive C: from diskette in drive A:
A:INSTALL A C -- Parameters show source and
-- destination drives.
INSTALLING AS NEW PROGRAM ITEM IN WINDOWS:
Once the files have been installed in the \FSRCH directory on
the drive of your choice, the only remaining step is to install
the FSRCH icon in one of the program groups. To install FSRCH
on the windows desktop, perform the following steps.
1) Click once within the program group that will contain the
FSRCH/Windows application. This is typically the
"Windows Applications" group, or any other group you choose.
2) Select the FILE Menu for the Windows Program Manager (at
the top of your desktop), and choose the "New..." entry
in that menu.
3) When the program manager presents the dialog to select between
a new Program Group and a new Program Item, select Program
Item and click on the OK button.
4) In the Description field, enter "FSRCH".
5) In the Command Line field enter "x:\FSRCH\FSRCH.EXE", where
x is the drive letter of the drive containing the FSRCH files.
6) In the Working Directory field, enter "x:\FSRCH" where x is
the same disk drive letter.
7) Click on the OK button.
This completes the installation of the SHAREWARE version of
FSRCH/Windows.
USE OF FSRCH/WINDOWS
The registered version of FSRCH/Windows comes with a complete user's
manual. Information on all of the options and modes can be found in
the complete Windows on-line help provided with FSRCH/Windows.
The basic operation of FSRCH/Windows consists of a few basic steps.
1) Identify the file specification(s) that should be searched.
FSRCH/Windows supports the use of the '*' wildcard character
in the file name or file name extension. The drive containing
the files may be specified. If it is omitted, the current
defualt drive will be used. The directory containing the files
may be specified. If it is omitted, the current default
directory will be used. More than one file specification may
be provided in a list delimitted with commas.
2) Specify the first search key. This is a string of text that
must be matched in the indicated mode.
3) Specify the search mode. Several search modes are provided in
a listbox menu. These search for the presence or absence of
one or two search keys in the relationship implied by the name
of the mode.
4) Specify the second search key (if one is required for the chosen
search mode.
5) Select the search options that should be used. These include
such things as case sensitivity, file output, showing search
progress, etc.
6) Click on the "OK" button to begin the search.
NOTE TO SHAREWARE DISTRIBUTORS:
Leeson Software Services will gladly provide recognized shareware
distributors with personalized copies of the latest shareware version
of any of our software products. Typically this would consist a
modified registration form with the name and address of the shareware
distributor filled in. This information allows us to send current
copies of the software to distributors when there is an update. In
addition, we provide a $1.00 rebate to distributors all but the first
registration received in a calendar quarter. So, it pays to have the
registrations traceable to you.
Individual registered users can receive the same $1.00 rebate. Just
request that a personalized Shareware version be sent with your
registered copy, and then distribute it to others who may be interested.
Rebates will not be provided for the first registration in a calendar
quarter. They will also not be provided to unregistered users who are
not recognized shareware distribution companies.
