  14. This is a SHAREWARE version of FSRCH/Windows 1.0.  It is set up
  15. to be installed from a .ZIP file from a bulletin board or from a
  16. single high-density 5-1/4" diskette or double-density 3-1/2"
  17. diskette from a shareware distributor.  SHAREWARE versions that
  18. install from two double-density 5-1/4" diskettes are available
  19. by writing to Leeson Software Services at the address below and
  20. providing $2.00 to PARTIALLY defray shipping expenses.

  22. In return for the $12 registration fee you will receive the latest
  23. version with shareware notices removed.  You will also receive a
  24. printed user's manual for this product.

  26. This is a SHAREWARE product.  It may be freely distributed for trial
  27. use as long as it is not changed in any way.  Shareware developers
  28. do not receive any compensation from shareware distribution companies.
  29. The only compensation that developers receive is from a portion of
  30. the registration fee that users provide when they find the product
  31. useful.  It is important that you register the product if you are
  32. going to use it.  The registration process provides you with a license
  33. to use the product on a single machine.  Site licenses are always
  34. available for companies that need to use multiple copies of the
  35. program.

  37. The only documentation provided with the shareware version is this
  38. file and the extensive on-line windows help.  After completing
  39. installation, we urge you to browse through the help file.  This
  40. software provides many features that may not be obvious to the
  41. casual user, but they are all documented in the help file.

  45. INSTALLATION:
  46.     Installation can be done from a .ZIP file loaded from a bulletin
  47.     board or from a single diskette from a shareware distributor.
  48.  
  49.     ZIP FILE INSTALLATION:
  50.         To install from a ZIP file, simply create the directory that is
  51.         to hold this product and "unzip" the files into it.  Then install
  52.         it as a new program item with windows program manager.
  53.             EXAMPLE installing on drive C:
  54.                 C:                      -- Change to the target drive.
  55.                 pkunzip FSRCHWIN.ZIP    -- Unzip the files.

  57.     DISKETTE INSTALLATION
  58.         To install from a diskette, run the install batch file on the
  59.         distribution disk either from program manager or from the
  60.         DOS prompt.
  61.             EXAMPLE installing on drive C: from diskette in drive A:
  62.                 A:INSTALL A C           -- Parameters show source and
  63.                                         -- destination drives.

  65. INSTALLING AS NEW PROGRAM ITEM IN WINDOWS:
  66.     Once the files have been installed in the \FSRCH directory on
  67.     the drive of your choice, the only remaining step is to install
  68.     the FSRCH icon in one of the program groups.  To install FSRCH
  69.     on the windows desktop, perform the following steps.
  70.         1) Click once within the program group that will contain the
  71.            FSRCH/Windows application.  This is typically the
  72.            "Windows Applications" group, or any other group you choose.
  73.         2) Select the FILE Menu for the Windows Program Manager (at
  74.            the top of your desktop), and choose the "New..." entry
  75.            in that menu.
  76.         3) When the program manager presents the dialog to select between
  77.            a new Program Group and a new Program Item, select Program
  78.            Item and click on the OK button.
  79.         4) In the Description field, enter "FSRCH".
  80.         5) In the Command Line field enter "x:\FSRCH\FSRCH.EXE", where
  81.            x is the drive letter of the drive containing the FSRCH files.
  82.         6) In the Working Directory field, enter "x:\FSRCH" where x is
  83.            the same disk drive letter.
  84.         7) Click on the OK button.
  85.     This completes the installation of the SHAREWARE version of
  86.     FSRCH/Windows.

  91. USE OF FSRCH/WINDOWS
  92.     The registered version of FSRCH/Windows comes with a complete user's
  93.     manual.  Information on all of the options and modes can be found in
  94.     the complete Windows on-line help provided with FSRCH/Windows.

  96.     The basic operation of FSRCH/Windows consists of a few basic steps.
  97.  
  98.         1) Identify the file specification(s) that should be searched.
  99.            FSRCH/Windows supports the use of the '*' wildcard character
  100.            in the file name or file name extension.  The drive containing
  101.            the files may be specified.  If it is omitted, the current
  102.            defualt drive will be used.  The directory containing the files
  103.            may be specified.  If it is omitted, the current default
  104.            directory will be used.  More than one file specification may
  105.            be provided in a list delimitted with commas.
  106.         2) Specify the first search key.  This is a string of text that
  107.            must be matched in the indicated mode.
  108.         3) Specify the search mode.  Several search modes are provided in
  109.            a listbox menu.  These search for the presence or absence of
  110.            one or two search keys in the relationship implied by the name
  111.            of the mode.
  112.         4) Specify the second search key (if one is required for the chosen
  113.            search mode.
  114.         5) Select the search options that should be used.  These include
  115.            such things as case sensitivity, file output, showing search
  116.            progress, etc.
  117.         6) Click on the "OK" button to begin the search.

  123. NOTE TO SHAREWARE DISTRIBUTORS:
  124.     Leeson Software Services will gladly provide recognized shareware
  125.     distributors with personalized copies of the latest shareware version
  126.     of any of our software products.  Typically this would consist a
  127.     modified registration form with the name and address of the shareware
  128.     distributor filled in.  This information allows us to send current
  129.     copies of the software to distributors when there is an update.  In
  130.     addition, we provide a $1.00 rebate to distributors all but the first
  131.     registration received in a calendar quarter.  So, it pays to have the
  132.     registrations traceable to you.

  134.     Individual registered users can receive the same $1.00 rebate.  Just
  135.     request that a personalized Shareware version be sent with your
  136.     registered copy, and then distribute it to others who may be interested.

  138.     Rebates will not be provided for the first registration in a calendar
  139.     quarter.  They will also not be provided to unregistered users who are
  140.     not recognized shareware distribution companies.
